A heat pump in Colorado Springs has to heat through January, not only cool in July. Solid Rock specifies, repairs, and installs air-source and ductless heat pumps that are honest about altitude, design temperatures, and backup heat.
Josh and Tammy’s technicians work on existing heat pumps and on new dual-fuel pairings with gas furnaces. If a heat pump is a poor fit for a particular house, we will say so and keep you on a conventional furnace and AC rather than sell a system that will not keep up.
Professional service built around your home
Heat pump as a year-round system
We treat heating and cooling as one refrigeration circuit, including backup heat, defrost, and thermostat configuration.
Dual-fuel when gas still makes sense
Many local homes keep a furnace for the coldest hours and use the heat pump in shoulder seasons. We design that handoff instead of guessing.
Service after the install
The same shop that installs the heat pump repairs it, including emergency no-heat calls when backup heat has also failed.
HVAC needs in Colorado Springs
Elevation reduces heating capacity. Overnight lows and wind along the Palmer Divide can push a heat pump into backup heat often if the unit was chosen from a milder climate’s chart. Colorado Springs is still a strong heat pump market when the equipment is cold-climate rated, ducts are in reasonable shape, and the homeowner understands defrost and backup heat. That is the conversation Solid Rock has on site.
When a heat pump fits a Colorado Springs home
- You want one outdoor unit for heat and cool
- Utility rates or rebates favor a heat pump path
- An addition or garage needs ductless heat pump zones
- The existing furnace can stay as dual-fuel backup
- You are replacing both a tired AC and a tired furnace

Frequently asked questions
Do heat pumps work in Colorado Springs winters?
Cold-climate and dual-fuel systems do, when they are sized for local design temperatures. A heat pump sold for a coastal climate will struggle here. We specify equipment accordingly.
Is a heat pump cheaper to run than a furnace?
It depends on electric and gas rates, insulation, and how often backup heat runs. We talk through operating cost without promising a utility bill we cannot control.
Can you work on the heat pump I already have?
Yes. Repair and maintenance are available on existing heat pumps. Installation is a separate project when replacement is the better path.
